Artformz Alternative
There has been a significant trend over the last decade in which artists have taken control of the production and presentation of their own work. It is increasingly more normal for artists to be proactive in placing their work where it can gain optimum exposure. These artists' projects have become a rich resource for both the private and publicly funded art sectors and contribute to arts policies and the overall vitality of the arts in our communities.
Artformz was founded in 2004, and inaugurated its first art exhibition in a 1,300 sq. ft storefront space in the Miami Design District. The gallery, owned and directed by artist Alette Simmons-Jimenez, is an alternative, as well as an addition to, the existing private gallery venues in the Miami area. The space is an experimental venue for artists and curators to exhibit, develop, and advance innovative art of diverse media and content.
In the 4 years Artformz resided in the Design District, 500+ artist portfolios were reviewed and 90 artist's works were exhibited. Commencing its 5th year, Artformz has relocated to the Wynwood Arts District. Artist submissions continue to be reviewed and artists are invited to participate at the space. Decisions are based on the quality of the portfolio and a professional record that demonstrate an ability to enhance the group’s collective effort. Following a new organizational plan, the selected artists are invited to participate at either the “Partners” level, a limited group, or at the “Associates” level, an unlimited group. Each artist contributes a project fee with different benefits associated. Each artist's dedication and progress is reviewed at years end determining whether their association with the gallery either continues or is terminated to allow others the opportunity.
Artformz strives to maintain a strong sense of artistic vision, ambitious approaches to the creation and presentation of work and the willingness to be experimental, combined with a passion for self-development and creative success. Artformz is interested in developing compelling ideas, and accepts outside projects from curators and individual artists that are presented in a strong, clear and concise manor. Space availability is contingent on previously planned exhibition schedules. It is Artformz mission to assist artists in taking a more active roll in their cultural community and personal career. This we believe, creates a more dynamic venue with a direction that opens doors and fosters creative exchanges.
